नमस्कार and welcome to my website!
I taught courses on Nepali language and literature and the cultures, histories and politics of Himalayan societies at SOAS, University of London, for 33 years, first as a Lecturer in Nepali and latterly as Professor of Nepali and Himalayan Studies. During those years I published 15 books, over 40 articles and book chapters, and a large number of translations. Since September 2020 I have been working as an independent scholar, and this website is my way of sharing my research with you. Here you will find listed all of my publications to date, organised by theme, with links to those that can be freely accessed online; a selection of learning materials; a selection of my translations of Nepali literature; some media reports and interviews; and a gallery of photographs. Content will continue to be added over the coming months, so please check back from time to time.
